Hike to the Overlook

One of Meadow Creek's best-kept secrets is a private hiking trail that leads to one of the highest points on the property. In about 20–30 minutes, you'll reach a quiet rocky overlook with sweeping views of the surrounding foothills, pine forests, and distant mountain ridges.

Whether you're looking for a peaceful morning walk, a place to watch the sunset, or simply a quiet moment away from the lodge, the overlook is well worth the climb.

What to Expect

The round-trip hike takes about 30-45 minutes.

The trail begins just past the barns and climbs approximately 0.65 miles through pine forest and open hillside, gaining about 400 feet in elevation before reaching the overlook.

This is a natural mountain trail, not a groomed park path. The surface is uneven and may include rocks, roots, loose dirt, mud, snow, fallen branches, and other seasonal obstacles. Conditions can change throughout the year.

Guests should wear closed-toe shoes with good traction and hike at a pace that's comfortable, especially if you're not accustomed to Colorado's elevation.

A Few Tips

  • Bring water, especially during warmer months.

  • The trail is an out-and-back hike. Return to the lodge by following the same trail back down.

  • About one-third of the way up, you'll reach a fork in the trail. Continue straight to take the more gradual switchback, or turn left for a steeper climb to the overlook.

  • Keep an eye out for deer, elk, birds, and other native wildlife.

  • Children should be supervised at all times, especially near the overlook.
